Community Housing Educator - Transitional Living Program

LifeWorks of Austin, TX is looking for a part time Community Housing Educator to join our team! The Community Housing Educator provides life skills education to clients in the Transition Living Program (TLP) through group facilitation and individual sessions. The Community Housing Educator conducts life skills training sessions focused on interpersonal relationships, independent living, community engagement, and financial stability. Additionally, this role engages with clients in their apartments to support the application of these skills, assesses their living environments, and provides feedback on their learning and development. The Community Housing Educator collaborates closely with other program staff to coordinate additional services.

This position is currently scheduled for 10 hours per week, evening hours. Potential to increase hours in the future may be possible.This position earns a competitive starting rate of $24.86-$27.17/hr depending upon experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide client-centered, healing-centered services to diverse individuals who may have experienced chronic homelessness, systems involvement, mental health challenges, substance use challenges, a history of trauma, early pregnancy/parenthood, etc.
  • Build trusting, safe relationships with clients through authentic engagement and strength-based, trauma-informed approaches
  • Develop, schedule, and conduct presentations and trainings on life skills topics such as interpersonal relationships, independent living, community engagement, and financial stability by using evidence-based or informed curriculum.
  • Engage with clients to support the application of life skills, including communal living (sharing common spaces, cooking meals, distributing house chores, doing laundry, etc.), assess their living environment, and provide feedback.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of audiences with varying needs; demonstrate strong facilitation skills, knowledge, and comfort discussing topics related to young adult transitions and life skills.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, community contacts and other service providers.
  • Comply with all requirements outlined by funding sources, licensure and accrediting bodies, the program, and the agency. These requirements may pertain to data, paperwork, philosophies, processes, and procedures, among other things.
  • Maintain timely, complete, and accurate case records and documentation, including (but not limited to) group activities, service plans, assessments, progress notes, intake reports, and incident reports.
  • Perform data entry into agency/funder databases and ensure timeliness and accuracy of data entry.
  • Practice professional and ethical boundaries and ensure consistent and equitable service provision.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in supervision meetings and all other required meetings or trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in social or behavior sciences, education, or related field;
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in HMIS, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and agency database.
  • Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish.
