Community Health Educator - 2Gen Program (Part Time - Bilingual Required)

LifeWorks of Austin, TX is looking for a part time (30hrs/wk.) bilingual Community Health Educator to join our 2Gen team! The Community Health Educator (CHE) provides sexual and reproductive health, parenting, and life skills education to all LifeWorks clients and to clients in the 2-Gen program through group facilitation and individual sessions. The CHE is also expected to prepare and conduct presentations around sexual and reproductive health as well as parenting education, builds and strengthens collaborations within the community, and plans enrichment activities for fathers/partners to enhance the parent/child relationship. The CHE may also provide training, resources, and support to staff and service providers to support education and prevention efforts in the organization, community, and schools.

This part time, non-exempt position earns a competitive starting rate of $24.86-$27.17/hr depending upon experience. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules and facilitates sexual and reproductive health, and parenting education groups services through the implementation of evidence-based or informed curricula and activities at schools or community spaces in and around the Austin area.
  • Coordinates and facilitates life skills training related to housing sustainability (budgeting, changing batteries in smoke detectors, basics of maintaining an apartment, etc.) to youth and young adults.
  •  Coordinates and facilitates parenting education groups with a focus on increasing parenting knowledge and skills, infant/child development, co-parenting, and family well-being. 
  •  Coordinates and facilitates groups and community outings for fathers/partners with a focus on healthy relationships and parent/child relationships and dynamics.
  • Communicates effectively with a range of audiences, demonstrating excellent facilitation skills, knowledge, and comfort discussing topics related to sexual and reproductive health as well as parenting education.
  • Delivers individual reproductive health education sessions, referrals, and support in a caring, non-judgmental, non-coercive manner, allowing clients to make informed decisions.
  • Plans, develops, and provides presentations and training on a variety of topics, such as sexual health disease prevention/intervention, community resources, relationship-building, and infant/child/adolescent development.
  • Serves as a resource across the agency for medically accurate, inclusive, evidence-based sexual health information.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with staff, community contacts and other service providers.
  • Develops referral partnerships and coordinates client services with community agencies, as appropriate, including sexual and reproductive health care services.
  • Meets with individual clients, as needed, to establish a safe, healthy relationship for learning, problem-solving, and participating in community activities.
  • Prepares documentation of plans and activities to ensure compliance with contracts, and agency requirements.
  • Maintains timely, complete, and accurate data entry in Customer Relationship Management database.
  • Responsible for the primary supervision of youth engaged in services.
  • Prepares for and actively participates in supervision meetings and all other required meetings or trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or a related field and 2+ year of related experience; or
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite tools, including Outlook and Word.
  • Required bilingual in English and Spanish.
