About Us

Altarxito is a lovingly crafted collection of vibrant, pop-up altar kits designed to help people connect with the Mexican tradition of honoring the lives of our loved ones who have passed on. With care, empathy, and cultural knowledge, founder Ana Beatriz Muñoz created Altarxito to make setting up altars and remembering loved ones more accessible — wherever you are — especially for Mexicans living far from home.

Rooted in the word “altar” and infused with cariño (“-ito,” because the original kit is convenient, pequeño y lindo), the name Altarxito honors both the significance and playfulness of Día de Muertos. The “X” is a proud nod to México, the home of the tradition and of Altarxito’s founder!

Altarxito was inspired by the desire to preserve and share tradition and heritage. In the United States, Ana Beatriz saw many generations of Mexicans and Mexican expatriates striving to keep their cultural practices alive and connect with their ancestors. And, understanding the sorrow of losing loved ones, she created Altarxito to support that effort — to offer the tools, inspiration, and guidance for anyone to build altars with love and ease, even when space is limited or you are far from México.

Altarxito is not only for those who grew up with this tradition, but also for those who want to learn, connect and enrich the meaning of life by honoring their ancestors and loved ones with care and art. Each piece of the Altarxito invites a conversation about memory, grief, joy, and the sacred cycle of life and death. It is an offering: to remember, show respect, reflect, feel, heal
