Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of building maintenance and construction work, including heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Relevant work experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses or Certifications:
Texas Class "C" Operator's License.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds

This position will perform tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of the ABIA campus building systems, to include doors and door hardware, various types of flooring and ceilings, wall repairs and installations, cabinetry, and mill work, exterior facility finishes, restroom finishes and fixtures and all facility aesthetics.

Driving on City business: This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and individual may be required to drive own personal vehicle or City vehicle. Successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver’s license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code. A driving record verification will be conducted. Applicants for positions for which City driving is an essential function must meet the standards of the program: age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability, and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on Department of Public Safety (DPS) Driver Record Report. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
  2. Repairs and maintains heating and cooling systems as required. Installs or replaces floors and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords.
  3. Drives vehicles as needed.
  4. Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc.
  5. Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc.
  6. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, and various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc.
  7. Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc.
  8. Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e. install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc.
  9. Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc.
  10. Operates forklift.
  11. Reads profiles/blueprints.
